About me

„Hier will ich hin!

My name’s Angelina, but call me Angie, if you like.

25 years of age and an avid traveler. Ah, who am I kidding? Travel is basically everything to me! Alongside with my cats and family, of course. But none of the two have ever kept me from taking off, so far. I am also a passionate environmentalist (I do what I can!), very interested in politics and international relations and, naturally as a traveller, foreign cultures and languages.

This brings me to one important point for this blog: Please note that English is not my first language, I was born in the German speaking part of a beautiful country called Switzerland and raised by parents who only speak German. For various reason, I decided to run this blog in English and German (like my other blog), so please, if you find errors in my writing, be kind.

The first time I came up with the idea of writing “Letters to… ” was when I wrote to my best friend J. and she reported back how much she enjoyed my e-mails with updates from a foreign destination I was traveling at the time. It was then, that I realized that writing comes a lot easier to me when writing TO someone and not just for myself. But who could I possibly write to?

A few years later I met Mila, Bea and their parents in marvelous Nicaragua. You can read about them on the “About Mila & Bea” page. The girls and me became pen-pals. This is how it all started. With this blog, I am writing not only to them in private letters as answers to theirs but I let them be my inspiration and muse, helping me to see the world from a different angle.

I set up this blog solely as a way to keep me writing. If I get some feedback or comments, even better. To move, touch or inspire someone with my writing? – Jackpot!!

  1. Dear Angie,

Thank you for sharing your stories. I have a very good friend and brother who has suffered from alcoholism, substance abuse and depression. I have seen his life fall apart in front of my eyes only to realize that nothing I did was saving him. I wouldn’t say he’s perfect (nobody is), but he’s back on track putting the pieces back and giving a renewed meaning to his life.

I guess we all have our own demons to fight. But love and compassion will take us the distance. So keep writing and sharing Angie. You’re indeed touching lives.

  2. its your long lost friend from a bike ride in Cambodia. Was reminded of you and with no other method of contact info, thought I’d stop by here.
